17 November 2022 : Financial Monitoring Unit (FMU) convened an Anti-Money Laundering (AML) / Combating the Financing of Terrorism (CFT) Compliance Meeting on November 17, 2022. After COVID, this is the first compliance meeting held in person which was arranged by FMU. The meeting was attended by senior executives of the banks from Compliance/AML departments. The meeting was chaired by the Director General FMU who during the meeting commended the efforts of the banks in exiting the FATF Grey List and encouraged the banks to maintain consistency, continuity, and sustainability in their efforts in fight against ML/TF/PF.
The presentations were then delivered by senior officers of FMU, Ms. Sumera Baloch, Ms. Samina Chagani and Mr. Shahzad Hussain. The presentations covered the updates on national risks, development of financial intelligence and feedback with respect to reporting of STRs/CTRs by the banking sector. A case study of a tax related ML conviction which yielded into a confiscation of more than PKR 2 billion was also delivered by Mr. Muhammad Shoaib Shahzad.
